Dad Loves You

After-the-rain.org / Costa Rica greeting

10/12/21 Tuesday

It’s a cold, dark, rainy night. I’m feeling a little down, missing my boy. Hope everyone else out there is doing well.

after-the-rain.org What started out as chicken scratch notes on the back pages of my boat’s logbook has now grown into a blog. These words and images help me cope with a loved one struggling with mental illness, and they help guide me through divorce, and the process of moving on. Thanks for reading along as I learn about life the hard way, do the best I can for my son in my new role as a single dad, and find weird similarities between restoring an old blue water sailboat and putting the pieces of my own life back together. Come check out my story and feel free to say hi!

  1. Hey Rainey, I was so sad to wake up to such a short and sad post from you. I cannot for one moment imagine what it must be like to not have your boy around you all the time. My two kids are now adults and only one of them still lives with us, but I am going away with my husband for 10 days in November and am already anxious about my son fending for himself whilst we are thousands of miles away. I also relate to your ache in a different way as I live in a different country to my parents and guilt tries to drown me for not going to see them more often. What I do know is that your son will be missing you as much as you miss him and in your absence remembers all the fantastic times you’ve had together which make him look forward to the next time he sees you. It won’t be long before he is of an age where he begins to decide for himself. I am sure as he grows older, you will get to see him more and more. Xx

    1. Thank you, you’ve always been so supportive 😊. It must be hard to see your parents and especially to get the whole family together when they live so far away. I would hope they can understand. Hope you will enjoy the 10 days.

      1. Thanks Rainey. From the very first time I encountered your story and read your posts, I was hooked and felt a connection. It is easy to
be supportive. You come across as a very decent human being who has been dealt a very raw card. Xx

    1. Hi Rainey, Have noticed that like me you have not written in months and I really miss reading your reflections and thoughts. Hope you come back soon. Sorry to leave you this comment on here but tried sending you an email and the link on this blog to contact you via email no longer seems to work. All the best. Mercedes xx
