Thanks Summer – Love, Me

8/7/20 Friday

A busy day at work, a busy day at life. I forgot about lunch until well into the afternoon. Fortunately there was leftover spaghetti in the fridge, plus a handful of juice boxes. I took my break outside, and the clouds pulled apart long enough to make a perfect moment, which is all I can really ask for at this place and time. There’s a lot of news about work, about the divorce, and tomorrow I plan to go sailing. But as autumn draws closer, I just pause to reflect on some of the summer moments and share a few random photos. When life seems to fall apart, there are still so many memories to enjoy and be thankful for..

after-the-rain.org What started out as chicken scratch notes on the back pages of my boat’s logbook has now grown into a blog. These words and images help me cope with a loved one struggling with mental illness, and they help guide me through divorce, and the process of moving on. Thanks for reading along as I learn about life the hard way, do the best I can for my son in my new role as a single dad, and find weird similarities between restoring an old blue water sailboat and putting the pieces of my own life back together. Come check out my story and feel free to say hi!

  1. Wonderful photos of blissful moments, I am sure. Autumn? Can’t think about that just yet. We still have the rest of August to enjoy, surely. Have a safe and great day sailing tomorrow. I spent the day at sea today, swimming in turquoise waters. Felt so incredibly blessed, so undeserving in many ways. We have to grab those moments with both hands though or else we have never truly lived. X

    1. May sound strange but the leaves are already starting to turn here at this latitude, especially the alder and maple. Plan on making the most of the good weather though. Wishing you the best..

      1. Really? It’s the one thing I dislike about having my birthday in August: a sense of great things coming to an end. I realised after leaving my comment that you probably actually went sailing today. How was it?

  2. Mmmm… I could probably eat all of those crabs by myself – but then I’d look like your cat for a week. And that last shot looks pleasant, though I don’t get the impression that your son does much sitting around. Occurs to me that there’s a theme here. Conservation energy maybe isn’t such a bad thing as we get older. 😉

    1. Funny thing about the crabs, they were all female so we let ‘em go. Funny thing about getting older, my son says I groan when I sit down sometimes then asks me “if that was hard work”.

      1. That’s so clever of you! Kit Kat. I love that name! Please do remember to neuter her when she comes of age otherwise you’ll have plenty of male suitors at your door!
